Sustainable Solutions
Match up with young professionals and leading house builders that will showcase your solution in real life.
We invite inventors, manufacturers, contractors, and others to propose materials, products and processes that radically reduce carbon footprint from housing over the full life cycle.
We seek solutions that reduces buildings impact on climate change over the full life cycle. Our assessment of the proposed solutions will be based on the European LCA Standard (EN 15978) including primarily embodied carbon from the product stage (A1-A3), but also the construction process stage (A4-A5), the use stage (B1- B7), end of life stage (C1-C4) as well as potential for reuse, recovery, and recycling (D). It is not mandatory that you have a LCA for your solution, but you are of course welcome to attach any documentation you may have.
We expect to appoint 4-5 winners with particularly promising potential for climate impact reduction. To reach the defined 2.5 kg CO2/m2/p.a. target in the demonstration buildings, we hope in particular to see new approaches to materials and manufacturing that reduces embodied carbon as well as solutions that enables low carbon emissions from the use of buildings.
In our assessment, we will favor solutions that do not only reduce carbon footprint but also, in innovative ways, ensures other well-known properties for technology uptake in construction:
- Scale: Solutions can be delivered in volume; including access to low energy raw materials, manufacturing capacity and supply chains working reliably in big scales
- Price and cash flow: Solutions can be delivered at a price level and with a cash flow equal to that of conventional solutions; including low cost of construction (and not only low costs of total ownership).
- Risks: Risks associated with the products’ technical performance, its legal and market compliance as well as compatibility with work practices of consultants and contractors have to be well described and mitigated.
- Attractive: The solution provides multiple benefits to the clients and end-user regarding aesthetics and functionality; sustainability being one of them.
Our pick of 4-5 winners will in short be based on the climate reduction potential as well as the implementation potential.
Our aim is that the appointed winners can be matured in a way that make them attractive to clients and companies in the demonstration phase of Housing Construction from 4 to 1 planet. Consequently, we look in particular for solutions that have passed the technical development phase and now have reached the deployment phase in which final tests and approvals as well as build up of supply chains and sales channels are essential (corresponding to TRL-levels 6 to 8).
